Marvel’s Midnight Sunsthat you may know as SpandeXCOM, got a release date again (again). Publisher 2K Games announced the news today with a flashy animated promo during the Disney and Marvel Games Exhibit. It will be out on December 2 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
Though it’s only been a public item for a year, the Marvel-themed tactical game has outgrown it. first announced during last year’s Gamescom Geoffstravaganza, midnight suns it was initially given a March 2022 release window (albeit without a specific date). By November 2021, just three months after its initial introduction, the game was already delayed to the second half of 2022. In June, during non-E3 2022, 2K gave it an October release date. After It was delayed again last August, and with a new window that coincided with the fiscal year of 2K Games’ parent company Take-Two Interactive, that is, sometime before March 31, 2023.
However, that window only applies to the Xbox Series X/S and PC versions; last-gen console versions don’t expire until later. There is no word yet on when they are expected.
Still, despite the turbulence midnight suns It has looked excellent in every way. Powered by Firaxis, midnight suns clearly follows the grid-based steps of the studio’s alien-themed tactical games, XCOM Y xcom 2. Instead of a group of terrestrial space marines, you control a cast of Marvel heroes, including Doctor Strange, Wolverine, Iron Man, Captain America, Blade, and Spider-Man. You can also create your own hero, customizing his skins and abilities.
However, the most interesting feature is its card-based mechanics. Instead of employing a standard move set, you start each turn with a random hand of cards. Some might determine your move options. Others may dictate what attacks or defensive moves you can make. Although not exactly the XCOM clone that some Firaxis fans are hungry for, the mechanic should shake up a long-standing formula. But XCOM hardliners might still bristle on one face: midnight suns will not have permanent death. Push the envelope all he wants, we can’t let those heroes die on screen!
