Scary moment Massive hail storm smashes car window in Canada as people duck for cover inside

Horrible images show the moment when the drivers of an important Canada road were blanketed with hail the size of golf balls on Monday.

Gibran Marquez was traveling on a central Alberta highway with two other people when the trio had to stop because their vehicle was hit by hail.

Marquez posted the video of the storm on Twitter which showed passengers stopped in the road and ducking as chunks of hail smashed car windows.

The video was captioned, ‘Last night, 5km south of petrol alley, 17 horrible minutes, as it showed car windows shattering as hail hit the surface.

‘Put the backpack to your left,’ Marquez can be heard saying as he passes the backpack to the driver like a shield against the broken windows.

The driver is shielding a female passenger from the broken windshield in his arms as hail pours through the cracks in the window. People are heard screaming outside as the storm continues.

Coincidentally, the weather Monday in parts of Alberta was a high of 80 F and a low of 56 F, according to The Weather Channel.

Marquez posted the aftermath of the storm with the vehicle off the road. The vehicle was decorated with yellow caution tape and broken windows.

Marquez posted another video of the moments when hail began to hit the car.

“Oh my God,” the female passenger yells as balls of hail begin to slowly break through the windshield.

Meanwhile, Marquez shows the partially broken rear window of the vehicle.

“Had to get footage of this…the world needs to see how serious these storms can be in a matter of seconds,” Marquez wrote in response to a commenter.

Marquez further stated that some suffered cuts, bruises and a minor concussion. A photo was shared of the female passenger being treated by a firefighter as a rainbow rose in the background.

Marquez said no one in his car was seriously injured. He said there were only a few cuts, bruises and a minor concussion.

The car Marquez was driving in was struck on the side of the road with yellow caution tape attached.

Marquez shared photos as the storm passed as some drivers returned to the road and some remained untouched.

Following the storm, Alberta Emergency Alert issued a tornado warning Monday that is no longer effective.

Grapefruit-sized hail was reported in some parts of Alberta. The NHP Field Project took a photo of one of the hail balls right next to a ruler.

Meanwhile, another female passenger driving in the Alberta town of Markerville also showed off a piece of hail she picked up from the storm.

“I can’t even,” Mhairi wrote on Twitter. ‘I panicked without putting it in the ruler properly. Tennis balls when NW of Markerville at 17:50. They are still going down. Stay clear.’

Users scattered Twitter sharing photos of their experiences with the hashtag, ‘abstorm’.

A storm chaser, TL Carmody, shared a photo of the family’s car that was hit in the middle of the hail storm.

‘I met a very shocked family in [the] McDonald’s in Innisfail that got caught in the hail,” TL Carmody wrote. “Everyone is fine, and they were so kind to let me take photos.”
