Prince William and Kate Middleton inherited the titles of Prince and Princess of Wales on Friday.

News of Kate’s new title started trending on Twitter on Friday after King Charles III announced that William, 40, and Kate, 40, formerly known as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, would now become the Prince and Princess of Wales following the death of Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday, Sept. eight.
People on social media seemed to have mixed reactions to the news, with many fans celebrating Kate’s new role in the royals. familywhile others took the opportunity to remember Diana instead, who assumed the role of Princess of Wales before her. tragic death in 1997.
“Introducing Her Royal Highness Catherine, Princess of Wales,” one Twitter user wrote, alongside a stunning black and white photo of Kate.
“I am so proud to have a new Princess of Wales! She will play the part so righteously, what an amazing woman,” another person. wrote.
But some fans weren’t so happy to see the royal title being adopted by someone other than the late Diana.
“To the woman who made the title of Princess of Wales iconic! There will never be another!” one fan wrote alongside a photo of Diana. “Long live Princess Diana.”
“There is only one Princess of Wales for me and that will always and forever be Princess Diana,” another intervened.
Other users found the news to be the perfect time, with one account calling it “right for it.” 25 years After Princess Diana’s death, we have another Princess of Wales to look after again.”
Despite the public’s mixed feelings regarding the title’s story, a royal source stated that William and Kate “will approach their roles in the modest and humble manner in which they have approached their work previously,” according to hello magazine.
“Kate, as the new Princess of Wales, is well aware of Princess Diana’s history with the title, but hopes to carve out her own path in the role.”
During Charles’s first speech as king on Friday, he also named his wife, Camilalike the new Queen consort.
“I know she will bring to the demands of her new role the steadfast devotion to duty that I have come to rely on so much,” he said.
Camilla, whom Her Majesty married after divorcing Diana, was previously known as the Duchess of Cornwall and never assumed the title of Princess of Wales due to her strong association with Diana.
